Hi, I'm Rich (Richard), founder and lead guide at 4x4 Explorer Adventures.
​
We run small-convoy, guided 4x4 expeditions, well organised and designed to feel relaxed and supportive. If you're new to Overlanding or just want to enjoy the drive without the stress of planning, you'll fit right in.

A bit about my background
​
I was born in the UK, grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand and spent 10 years in the British Army as an Infantry Officer. I then lived in France for 20 years before returning to New Zealand in 2014. Today I split my time between New Zealand and Europe, guiding trips for people who want great routes, great scenery, and a friendly convoy.

What we do
4x4 Explorer Adventures runs guided, tag-along 4WD trips designed to take you beyond the usual tourist routes and into some of the most spectacular and remote parts of New Zealand's South Island.
Our approach is simple. Small groups, well-planned routes, expert guidance, and a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
Our trips take you across rugged backcountry tracks, mountain passes, river crossings, historic gold trails, and wild coastal routes - with the freedom of a self-drive adventure and the confidence of travelling with an experienced guide.

Our small-group trips are relaxed, well supported, and designed for people who want more than a standard holiday. We offer real South Island overland travel, great driving, unforgettable scenery, and great company along the way.
We offer a range of trips to suit different styles of adventure, from remote wilderness camping journeys to comfort trips with overnight stays in local accommodation. Camp under big southern skies in remote locations, or enjoy the same epic tracks and scenery while returning to local accommodation each night.

Whether it's high mountains, river crossings, historic backcountry routes, or wild coastal landscapes, our trips are about more than just getting from one place to another. They are about discovering remarkable places, travelling with like-minded people, and enjoying the freedom of real adventure with an experienced guide.
